Dog Bites and Animal Attacks
New Hampshire has good laws to protect victims of dog bites and animal attacks. It is a matter of strict liability. If a dog attacks and injures someone, the owner and/or keeper is responsible – even if the animal never acted that way before.
A claim for damages can be made under the homeowner’s insurance policy.
It has been reported that 5 million people are bitten by “man’s best friend” every year. Many victims are young children. Common injuries include scarring, fractures, lacerations, infection, rabies and cellulitis. Once in awhile, the injuries are far worse.
If you or a loved one has been bitten by a dog or attacked by an animal, be sure to report the incident to the local dog officer or police department; take photos of the injuries; and, of course, seek medical attention and care.
